
The Kirklees council have been awarded £1.5million by the government to upgrade their Penistone rail line between Huddersfield and Sheffield. Supported by neighboring councils and local MPs, in 2023 they managed to secure million in leveling up cash
. Whilst the project is running, these new changes will help increase the number of trains, speed up travel and improve stations along each route.
The plan for this upgrade is to increase the speed along the Penistone line and improve the rail infrastructure. This will allow two trains to travel along the northern section of the line every hour, in both directions.
The project aims to connect the routes between Manchester, Leeds and Huddersfield to improve the travel time for all passengers. This will also help increase the number of trains, speed up travel and improve each station along the route.
By the end of this project, Journey times between Huddersfield and Sheffield will be reduced to less than an hour in travel time.
Over the years we will be able to see improvements to several to the Kirklees railway line and stations. A member of the Kirklees council says “The new Penistone rail line will be a massive upgrade, improving our connections throughout West Yorkshire.
