After his recent victory at the RBC Heritage Billy Foster has claimed Matt Fitzpatrick “is the most professional golfer I’ve ever worked with.”
A bold claim as he has worked for Tiger Woods who has 82 PGA Tour wins which is tied for the most of all time. But Fitzpatrick has improved his golf under Foster and has become more “professional” and “deserves every success that will come his way.”
Matt Fitzpatrick beat last year’s champion Jordan Spieth in a playoff to win the RBC Heritage this April. A final score of 17 under was enough to force the playoff and the win put Matt up to 8th in the world. The PGA Championship starts this Thursday and Matt will go into it with confidence following this win. Matt and Billy will be looking to win their second major together following the US Open win in 2022. Foster does believe that Fitzpatrick will win more majors in his career due to his professionalism.
The Sheffield born star started working with Billy Foster in 2018 as he needed a caddie and Billy just parted ways with Lee Westwood. Foster has caddied for the very best golfers in the world from the likes of: Sergio Garcia, Seve Ballesteros, Darren Clark, Lee Westwood and even Tiger Woods. However, despite being one of the worlds most decorated caddies, he had never won a major title until 2022 with Fitzpatrick. He has over 45 tour wins along with this 1 Major and has just won his second event on the PGA Tour with Matt.
One of the biggest improvements in Fitzpatrick’s game is his ability to stay calm on the course. This is due to Billy being right beside him talking to him and composing him. Forster taught Fitzpatrick to be more patient. He has missed 5 of the 11 cuts so far this year so has had to be patient now more then ever. Since Foster’s arrival Matt has matured as a golfer and wants to improve his game where he can, “the way he practices and logs down every shot he hits is borderline bonkers,” said Foster. Matt has worked closely with Foster for over 4 years and he himself didn’t think Matt would ever be this good. But he believes Matt will go on to win more majors.
