Delays and disruptions are expected at the station due to the ongoing TransPennine route upgrade that has been worked on since 2023. This aims to improve the roof, extend the platforms and develop the track.
Residents of Huddersfield will now have to use replacement buses for their commute, with no trains leaving for Leeds or Dewsbury until June. The project is estimated to have cost over £9 billion, with figures potentially rising to £11.5 billion. Travellers are being advised to check before they travel to avoid confusion and ensure that people get their destinations on time.
A quarter of the line that is being worked on has now been electrified, which will allow trains to run faster and more efficiently. This will apply across 23 stations that are situated on the new route.
Network Rail has also commenced build a new viaduct over that will cover the River Calder. This project that is due to complete in summer 2027. Expect to see updates on the extension of Ravensthorpe Station as well, which is being rebuilt to be accessible as this station is set to reopen in March 2028.
The work is expected to continue until at least 2027, with the projected finishing time being the fist month of the year. The full project will be being worked on well into the 2030s, with some reports even delaying it into the early 2040s.
