Set in the heart of West Yorkshire, Adolescence surprised many by becoing the biggest winner at the BAFTAs last night. The drama is centred around teenage life in a Northern town, which connects deeply with the audience due to its honesty, humour, and true realism. A lot of viewers said it felt like a reflection of growing up in places which arent often recognised.

Whilst the cast arrived in London, the mixture of emotions showed throughout with excitment and nerves creeping through. The show had not expected the series to recieve such huge recognition. The actor spoke proudly about filming throughout West Yorkshire, saying the ‘streets, schools, and communities gave the show its heart.’

The room errupted when Adolescence won Best Drama Series, lead actor Owen Cooper looked completely shocked as he walked onto the stage beside director Lena Doyle. During his speech Owen thanked the people of West Yorkshire for supporting the series from the beginning “This story belongs to the communities that inspired it” he also said: “We wanted to show that growing up here is hard sometimes, but is also full of strength, humour, and loyalty.”

By the end of the night, Adolescence had become one of the most talked about winners of the ceremony. For many watching back home in West Yorkshire, the victory felt personal.
