Late drama was the theme at the London Stadium as Arsenal move within two wins of the title after VAR lands in their favour.

Arsenal have moved one step closer to the Premier League title after a tense battle in London. The match was filled with end to end drama especially in the closing minutes as Mikel Arteta’s side escaped with a close call and VAR undoubtedly claiming the headlines once again.

It was a Calum Wilson equaliser that was denied by VAR deep into stoppage time. West ham pressed hard for the equaliser and thought they’d found it until the referee was called to check the screen.

It was a 95th minute corner delivered into a crowded penalty area that caused the issue. Goalkeeper David Raya attempted to claim the cross before it eventually bounced towards West Ham’s number 9, who forced it over the line with a powerful effort.

Celebrations echoed round the London Stadium in what fans thought was a vital point in their hope of survival. Meanwhile, Arsenal players surrounded the referee in protest

Referee Chris Kavanagh initially allowed the goal but VAR swiftly intervened and halted the Hammers euphoria. After a lengthy five minute stoppage in a vital moment in the final outcome of the Premier League season, officials deemed David Raya was impeded and therefore disallowed the goal.

This decison sparked huge debate from fans and pundits across social media. Many said the goalkeeper was not strong enough claiming the ball. Others argued he had clearly been obstructed.

Regardless of opinion, it is clear that this decision could be a defining moment in the race for the Premier League title and the hope for survival.
