The National Coal Mining Museum is to face a formal review of its “governance and management” following prolonged industrial action by staff.

Union members have been on strike since the 20th of August 2025 in an ongoing dispute over pay, with action now scheduled to continue into June 2026.

The walkouts have been extended three times, highlighting growing tensions between workers and management.

In response, the Charity Commission has confirmed that it will carry out an assessment of the museum’s governance. The review will examine how the charity is run and whether the trustees are meeting their responsibilities amid the continuing dispute.
