Paris Saint Germain have dumped Arsenal out of the European Cup after beating the London side 2-1 last night in Paris.
A stunning volley from Fabian Ruiz opened the scoring for the Parisians in the 27th minute, before Achraf Hakimi doubled their lead at the 72nd. Arsenal’s talisman Bukayo Saka halved the deficit coming into the 76th minute, giving a brief period of hope for the loyal Gunners support. It proved too little too late as the jubilant scenes commenced in Paris after the final whistle.
Arsenal will be bitterly disappointed to end their season in this fashion, now having nothing left to play for in their domestic campaign after Liverpool’s defeat of Tottenham saw them secure the top spot in the Premier League. It is now another trophyless season for Mikel Arteta, who has not had his hands on any silverware since their FA Cup win in 2020.
PSG will be looking to avenge their 2020 final loss against Bayern Munich and capture their first ever Champions League title, an honour that has long evaded the Parisian club. They will meet Inter Milan on the 24th of May, who recently defeated Barcelona 7-6 on aggregate in a thrilling tie to advance to the final round.
