two riders have died following a 11 bike crash at Oulton park on Sunday in a British Supersport championship race.
Shane Richardson, 29, and Owen Jenner, 21, both riders sustained fatal injuries in a crash that occurred on the first corner of the opening lap. Another driver Tom Tunstall, 47, also suffered serious injuries to his back and abdomen. Five other driver were also treated for minor, while three more got away with no injuries.
Cheshire Police have now said: “Police are investigating two deaths on behalf of the coroner following a multiple collision at Oulton Park this afternoon.
Due to the severity of the incident the rest of the British Supersport championship event was canceled.
MSVR released a statement through the British Supersport championship Twitter
“MSVR statement: British Supersport Championship race, Oulton Park At the start of the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship race at Oulton Park, exiting turn one there was a major chain reaction incident involving 11 riders. The race was immediately stopped and medical services attended. Due to the extent of the incident and following medical interventions it will not be possible to continue the event and therefore the event is cancelled. MSVR will issue a further statement in due course.”
Whitespower sport New Zealand also commented on the death of their driver on Instagram “The team at Whites are extremely saddened by the news of @shanerichardson28‘s passing, early this morning.
Shane was involved in an 11-bike pile-up at Rd1 of the British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park.
Shane will be remembered by many as a great racer, person, and father. Our thoughts go out to Shane’s young family and friends during this tough time.
