Ronnie O’Sullivan was on course to win his eighth World Snooker Championship title when he faced 2015 champion Stuart Bingham in the quarterfinals at the crucible last night.
Despite being the heavy favourite, O’Sullivan was stunned by Bingham and lost 13-10 and crashed out of the competition.
The pair were level pegging going into the final session, but three consecutive, immaculate frames from Bingham sealed his victory.
The semi-final will be a battle of the giant killers as Bingham faces qualifier Jak Jones, who had caused the first major upset of the day by defeating world No 2 Judd Trump earlier on Wednesday, in the semi-finals.
This championship has been one of the most surprising in a long time as three qualifiers for the tournament have now reached the semi-finals for the first time since the tournament was staged at the Crucible in 1977.
