Marcus Osbourne (34) has been charged with 2 counts of murder and assaulting and detaining a second woman against her will in a property in Harpe Ing, Dalton, Huddersfield, following a ‘serious incident’ on May 15th, 2023.

Police, ambulances and air ambulances were seen on the Dalton street since 9:53am BST.

Tributes pour in for ‘angel’ mental health nurse and mum of four, identified as Katie Louise Higton (27) and ‘heart of gold’ dad, Steven Harnett (25), as police confirm that a man and woman have died at the Dalton property from injuries believed to be inflicted by a bladed weapon.

Local taxi driver and neighbour, Surendra, saw police cars around 10am and was told not to leave his home. He was let out at around 4pm by police to work and calls for police patrolling.

‘Another incident happened a few days ago, every week something new happens in this area. There should be regular policing’ says Surendra.

He continues ‘I have a 19-month-old grandson, how can I let him play out on the street? It’s 10 o’clock in the daytime and this is happening. My family are terrified, and we are planning to move’.

A Dalton Community group on Facebook has been discussing the situation, including the town of Huddersfield: ‘Another normal day in Huddersfield, Dalton District’.

This follows the increase in knife related violence in Huddersfield.

As a taxi driver, Surendra has noticed the ways crime is beginning to affect Huddersfield stating ‘We used to earn very good money on Fridays and Saturdays, now Town is like a ghost town. People leave Huddersfield for nights out now, no one feels safe’.

Surendra’s family are ‘serious’ about moving away, he said ‘We are Somalian. I migrated, my dad migrated, my grandad…We may as well move back! We migrated here for safety’.

Marcus Osbourne is to make his next appearance at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday 18th May.
