The New York Knicks came from behind to beat the Boston Celtics 108-105 in an extremely close game 1 of the second round of the playoffs at the TD Garden.
It would be Jalen Brunson who would lead the third seeded New York Knicks to a very close game 1 win against the seconded seeded Boston Celtics. The Knicks would come back from a 20 point deficit in the fourth quarter. Brunson, who won the NBAs most clutch player award would lead the knicks in 4th point scoring when he scored 11 out of his total 29 points in the fourth quarter.
The game would go to overtime after a last second buzzer beater from Jalen Brunson would bank off the backboard and rim in and out of the rim. Jayson Tatum would lead the Celtics with 23 points and an impressive 16 rebounds. Other then Jaylen Brown no one on the Celtics would hit above 20 points.
The Celtics were heavily favoured heading into the series and analysts wondered how the kicks would defend the Celtics incredible pick and pop play. One of the glaring weaknesses in the Boston game plan was how bad their three point shooting became towards the end of regulation. The Celtics would shoot 25% from three point range compared to the knicks 45% from deep. Boston’s star player Jayson Tatum made 30% of his total shots and would score well below his average points per game of 26, despite him scoring 13 in the first quarter. Jaylen Brunson of the New York Knicks would get 29 points, 3 more points then what he has averaged during the regular season.
The Celtics will be looking to bounce back when they once again are the hosts for game two in the early hours of Thursday Morning
