Work is continuing at Huddersfield Railway Station, after a new under-track crossing had been installed between two platforms.

There is also work set scheduled to start on the roof, helping to rejuvenate the station to its former glory.
Network Rail state: “Scaffold towers will be put in place across Platforms 1 and 4, allowing a work platform to be erected”, and that the work will consist of ‘grit blasting, painting, and re-roofing‘ ‘.
Many builders have worked on the under-track crossing throughout the busy period of Christmas and New Year and are now focusing on the structure of the trainshed roof.
Improvement works started this week on Monday (8th January). The car park and pick-up points will be affected around the station, with the car park being temporarily closed throughout the works.

This comes as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) on the York to Manchester route, which has included station works at stops such as Mirfield Railway Station. A total of £6.9bn has been pledged by Transpennine, with the government announcing their contribution of £3.9bn in funding towards the project. The work comes after a huge neccesity for extensive piling and electrification work, alongside equipment testing for signalling and telecommunications.
Kirklees Council have asked commuters to allow: “a bit of extra journey time“, as TransPennine services are likely to be affected during this period. They later added that: “[Even though] TRU isn’t a council project, it’ll mean great things for our links with the rest of the north!“

There is not a specific date when the TRU works will be completed but Network Rail has stated that it will be completed in Early 2024.
