An emotional Kyren Wilson got the job done after a nervy ending in his match with Jak Jones beating him 18-14.
The 32-year-old looked like he was in a comfortable position when he was on the brink of victory at 17-11 but Jones fought back to put some panic into the Englishman.
At one stage, the Welsh qualifier Jones was 7-0 down and quickly reeled off three consecutive frames before Wilson let his emotions out and shouted as he burst into tears as he secured his victory.
Wilson said,
“I would like to say sorry to Jak for the outburst, but it does mean so much to us all. I have dreamed of this moment – it was so nice to have the family there and let out emotions. I have given everything, I held myself together, kept myself composed and Jak fought and fought and made it so difficult for me.”
The Englishman last reached a World Championship final back in 2020 and was beat by Ronnie O’Sullivan 18-8. Wilson managed to get the redemption he wanted of winning a World Championship.
He came into the tournament having had an underwhelming campaign and dealing with family issues.
Wilson will now be looking to kick on from this in future events and use this as a confidence booster.
