The RFL’s Match Review Panel has determined that Elliot Wallis did not headbutt Tim Lafai therefore his ban has removed, and no further action will be taken.
The incident occurred on Friday evening in the Giants’ clash against Salford Red Devils when the winger was given a straight red card by referee Tom Grant.
However, following the match, the notes from the match review panel detailed that there was no butting motion made by Wallis, therefore the decision should be overturned.
This comes after new tacking and contact rules were in introduced by the RFL at the start of this year. This has led to several questionable red card decisions including Hull FC’s Fa’amanu Brown in their match against Warrington Wolves back in February.
These decisions have led to the RFL receiving criticism for harsher decisions that have not been seen in previous seasons.
This will be welcomed news for the Giants as they prepare for their Super league Round 11 fixture against league leaders Wigan Warriors in their bid to climb up the table.
