Huddersfield Giants lost 16-18 to Salford Red Devils in their first game back at the John Smiths stadium in 5 despite a late comeback.

Nene MacDonald scored the opener, cutting out Jake Connor’s pass and running three quarters of the pitch. He then set up Ethan Ryan with a mazy run, before scoring the third to put Salford 18-0 up just after half time.

Huddersfield were dealt further misery when Elliot Wallis was shown a red card on the 60th minute for a headbutt on Tim Lafai.

Huddersfield, driven by losing the man played some fantastic rugby with Adam Swift touching down in the left corner. Tui Lolohea scored with a lovely chip and run before Jake Bibby flew, avoiding the tackle to score the Giants third try. A missed Connor conversion left Huddersfield agonisingly close and the game finished 16-18 to the away side.
