The new venue will be the UK’s largest indoor arena when it is fully open.. if it is ever fully open.
The arena has been plagued with a number of last-minute set backs in recent weeks, the latest being the cancellation of Olivia Rodrigo’s concert this weekend.
Last night fans were told at 6:40pm via social media that the 8pm concert, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie was cancelled due to a “venue-related technical issue”, leaving fans already at the arena furious.
In an Instagram post after the bans last-minute cancellation, the US rapper said issues were down to “something that happened with the venue while I was at soundcheck”.
“We are working on rescheduling in the next few days,” he added. “I’m heated about the situation too, but safety first.
“Manchester, I got you. Just stay tuned for further info.”
Concerns for the venue had been highlighted last month when the capacity was reduced with hours’ notice at a test event.
Rick Astley was due to perform for 11,000 arena workers on 21 April but at the last minute, thousands of tickets were cancelled.
The venue was due to be fully opened with Peter Kay stand-up shows on 23 and 24 April, but due to safety concerns these events were also cancelled.
