After Ipswich Town’s 2-1 victory over Coventry City last night, Daniel Farke and Leeds United’s dreams of securing an automatic promotion spot look in peril.
Leeds were unable to stay ahead of Kieran Mckenna’s side, as they were thrashed 4-0 away to QPR last Friday night.
With only one game to go Leeds must win on the final day of the season when they host Southampton and hope that virtually relegated West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town manage to get a result away to Ipswich.
If the Terrier’s did somehow get a win at Portman Road on Saturday, it wouldn’t be the first time that Huddersfield had helped their rivals get back into the Premier League. Back in 2020, an Emile Smith-Rowe winner at the John Smiths Stadium against West Brom secured Leeds’ return to the Premier League; virtually saving Huddersfield from relegation to League One in the process.
The circumstances are very different this time round though, Andre Breitenreiter’s sides relegation to England’s third division is all but confirmed, so I’m sure many Huddersfield fans will be hoping that they don’t help their rivals once again.
Daniel Farke’s men have only lost once at Elland Road so they will be confident in getting a result on Saturday afternoon, but it is ultimately out of the Lilywhite’s hands.
