Residents are gearing up for the 2023 Race For Life in Huddersfield, that’s happening on Sunday 25th June in Greenhead Park. It’s a 5K run for the British charity Cancer Research UK, which raises money for research that helps beat cancer. 200 types of cancer are studied in the research such as breast cancer, lung cancer, brain cancer and leukaemia.
The cost to sign up for the race is £15.99 for adults and £11.00 for children. There are seventeen other events in June for Cancer Research happening in Yorkshire, with Races for Life to happen in cities such as Bradford, Doncaster and Leeds. The events occurring in these different cities include 3k runs, 10k runs and 5k muddy obstacle courses.
Nicki Embleton, Cancer Research UK’s spokesperson in Yorkshire, said: “We’d love for as many people as possible across Huddersfield to join us during our 30th year of Race for Life. Race for Life is a powerful way to celebrate and remember loved ones affected by cancer and to raise money for pioneering research. Whether people are living with cancer, taking part in honour of or in memory of a loved one with cancer or signing up to protect their own children’s future, everyone has a reason to Race for Life.”
As this is the 30th year of Cancer Research’s Race for Life, each participant will get a special trophy in commemoration of the milestone.
Cancer Research’s Race For Life began in 1994 with 750 participants raising £48,000. Since that first race in Battersea, it has become the UK’s biggest series of fundraising events, with over £940 million raised towards life-saving research. The Race for Life was a women’s only event until men were allowed to take part in 2019.
For those who don’t want to run but still want to participate in raising funds, Cancer Research UK offers a wide range of fundraising ideas including baking sales, coffee mornings and games nights.
